Many children in Primo Tapia, Mexico live without access to or education surrounding oral health and dental care.
This can lead to pain that disrupts their life in so many ways; their sleep, nutrition, and even their education.
It’s estimated that up to one-quarter of Mexicans have never owned or used a toothbrush, and if they have in the past, it isn’t replaced simply due to the cost. Of course, you know well that poor dental hygiene starts with small cavities and leads to so much more.
According to the Mexican Institute of Social Security, nine out of every ten people in Mexico have dental cavities and other gum diseases. On top of that eight out of every ten adults between 50 and 60 years of age only have ten of their teeth. This is because treatment is only sought when there are severe problems or pain, with tooth removal being the most economical option.
We know that helping to solve dental issues in a vulnerable region begins in childhood!
That’s why Casa de Luz will be opening a no-charge dental clinic in Primo Tapia in the spring of 2024.
We want to increase access and reduce incidence for vulnerable children and their families providing them with routine checkups, oral hygiene education, and preventative care.
But with a population of 130 million and only 16,000 dentists in Mexico, not only is it financially unattainable for families, there simply aren’t enough dentists to help.
That’s where you come in! As a visiting dentist, you have the opportunity to make an incredible impact on children and families.
You can help provide education and treatment that enhances their quality of life and offers protection for their future.
We know that having a permanent clinic that qualified visiting dentists and hygienists can step into will offer the consistency and care that’s needed for bright healthy smiles.
Will you be one of them?
If you are interested in being a part of a dental work at Casa de Luz please reach out! We’d love to hear from you!
